During the month of November each year, Movember asks men across the world to grow a moustache with the aim of raising vital funds and awareness for men’s health issues.
I quite like the idea of Movember – even though a moustache looks really unfortunate on me. And from what I see on Facebook it’s quite a big thing this year – people who I’d have never thought to be into this kind of mem-like silliness are proudly proclaiming to be “Mo Bros” this year.
And yet – I don’t want to be part of it. And that’s mostly because the whole thing has a weird douchey hipster-bro-ish vibe to it which does not resonate with me. I’m not sure if it always has been like that or even if it’s not only like that on the Movember Germany Facebook page – which is basically a Wilkinson Sword commercial aimed squarely at two of the most douchey hipster-bro-ish towns in Germany.1
So, I shaved by upper lip yesterday, I shaved it today. And I will most likely shave it tomorrow, too.
- I’ll leave it as an exercise for the reader to find out which cities that are. ↩
