Keeping up with my tradition of making New Years resolutions even though I find that idea pretty silly, here we go:
Optimize screen time
I was about to write less screen time but who am I kidding, this would work about as well as last year’s resolution. So instead of reducing the quantity I’ll work on the quality. Which basically means:
- Be more picky about the series I watch. There’s a whole lot of crap on my list and maybe I don’t need to watch all this.
- Unfollow people on Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr. For the last couple of months I have been pretty indiscriminately following everybody I found remotely interesting. Turns out – many people are not as interesting as one would hope. Then in November I did a little experiment and muted almost everybody in Tweetbot for a month. That was such a refreshing month, most tweets I read were signal instead of the usual noise.
As I am writing this, these are the numbers:
Tumblr: 462
Twitter: 588
Instagram: 150
Feeds: 144
Let’s see how much we can bring them down. And maybe Markus was right and unfollowing people who tweet too much helps, too.
- Write more, read less. Not that reading per se is a bad thing – I would go so far as to say that reading is probably the best thing one can do to keep the mind alive. But especially last year, I read a lot but didn’t write much.
